Evaluation: Question 4

Question 4 How did you use media technology in the construction, research and planning and evaluation stages?

The media Technology i used in the stages of my production are
  • Photo-shop
  • Prezi
  • Final cut
  • Imovie
  • Blogger
  • Youtube
  • Garage Band
  • SLR Digital Technology
  • PowerPoint
Photoshop
Adobe Photoshop was used to create both my magazine cover and my film poster. This allowed me to experiment more with the different tools available. To help me create a professional looking piece that matches the standards of say Empires Magazine covers or a poster produced by paramount for a real film. Photoshop allowed me for my poster to use a blue tinge gradient that added a ghostly effect rather than just the typical dark colour scheme of a Horror poster. It also allowed me to merge two photos together with was a necessity for showing both sides of the possession ( the before and after). This is so that the films storyline is slightly portrayed through the poster. The typography used create a old fashioned religious effect. The Gradient also used does not take focus from the picture as the image needs to dominant the poster to show the real effect of the merged photos.
For my magazine photoshop allowed me to create a similar layout from a well known film magazine Empire. This helped me structure where to place the images, headlines, pugs, bar codes and the main header. It also helped me split the image of steps into half normal and half possessed. As the different tool available such as the Vain tool allowed me to create a sinister evil look to one side of Stephanie face.

Prezi
Prezi was very useful for doing my publication for my magazine. This helped me produce different ideas and organize all the different elements needed to be put on my magazine cover. I think its a lot more effective than power point as your able to progress your ideas in more details by for example creating paths from my original idea.

Imovie & Final cut
Even though imovie was used for the editing for are trailer. This was Stephs main job so I didn't play much part in the editing. Although i did over look most of the things she did using Imovie. I think it was very effective for making the trailer flow better and it also allowed us to add soundtracks and non diegtic sound effects. Although I did do my podcast on my progress on Imovie. This was useful for editing my podcast because at points I stalled on what to say.

Blogger

As i was new to blogger this year i found it was very useful in my research and planning stages p
of my work. This because it allowed me to organize and edit posts. As well as allowing me top upload pictures and videos and drafts of my trailer, poster and magazine cover.

Garage Band
This was used for the making of our sound for our trailer. It was also used for me making my podcast. It allowed us to edit and add effects to are sounds. It also enabled us to add voice overs.

SLR digital camera
This camera ensured that all are pictures were of good quality.

Youtube
I used this in the research and planning stages for analysing codes and conventions of a horror trailer.
It was also used as part of my audience feedback as we shared are trailer on here for people to view and comment.

Power point
This was used for presenting are first original idea to the group i would be working with.

Evaluation: Question 3. What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Here I have evaluated the audience feedback that I got for my Movie trailer from some members of my target audience.

Magazine

My audience feedback showed me that my magazine didn't look like an original weekly magazine cover it looks more like a special addition one so I decided thats what my magazine cover will be so I made it a horror movie special edition one.

As shown here the image is too dominate and the layout doesn't look professional (Draft)
Where as a special edition the layout looks a lot more professional. and more like a magazine cover (Final)

Another thing Becky from my audience suggested here the text doesn't blend with the initial horror theme and they looked unprofessional  (Draft)

Taking in Becky's feedback into consideration I chose a more professional Font that i researched was similar to Empires special edition covers so it looked professional. ( Final Draft)

Poster

From my audience feedback off Micheal he said that here on my first
draft it didn't really fit with the codes and conventions of a horror as it
wasn't clear straight away that the film is a horror.

Taking in this construction I added gradient to the poster making it look more darker and giving it a blue tinge for a ghostly effect making it more clear to the audience that its a horror poster.

Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media products use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Teaser Trailer
When making our teaser trailer we used cliché codes and conventions a horror film Then we challenged and developed these to make our trailer look more unique and different from the others. I am going to compare my trailer to The Last Exorcism and The exorcism as that is where most of are inspirations came from. Here are some ways in which i think we used codes and conventions of a horror.

Use

  • Most Horror trailers use lots of blood to attract the audience showing how gory it is
  • We also used a girl as the one to be possessed as this is the case in both The exorcist and the last Exorcism
  • We also used a priest in our trailer which is also used in both the other films, this is to show the religious aspects of the film.
  • The girl also that is chosen to be possessed is the innocent one who protested against doing the Ougi board this is typical in most horror films.

Develop
  •  We created a blue tinge effect which is similar to paranormal activity which hasn't been used for a possession film yet. This creates a ghostly spirit effect
  •  Also we used the mirror on the wall as away for the girl whoms victim of possession to communicate to her parents
  •  We also used lots of Flashes and fast editing showing the audience a good insite of the film
  • Used lots of different cinematography and editing such as Slow zooms and high angels showing Steph chasing her victims.
Challenge
  • Challenged the typical horror genre by having Steph as the final girl theory by Carol Clover but with a twist as Steph is also the villain in the teaser trailer
  • We also used a Ougi board which has not yet been used in a possession film as its usually spirits not demons they communicate with.

Magazine

Use: I used a colour scheme of just 3 colors. Red, Black and white. This makes my magazine follow most overs and look professional
. I was inspired the layout from the Empire film magazine
. I chose to use a dominant image of Stephs face which was also inspired by a Empire magazine

Develop
. I used similar small subtitles in speech marks describing the film also seen on the exorcist poster
. I also used the advertising of different films and wrote about them.

Challenge
. Even though I used Steph as the dominate image I edited the photo so it shows both the possessed and the normal side of Steph
. I made the Magazine a special edition version dedicated to horror.

Poster
Use: I used similar font to the one from the last exorcism as it looked very religious and old fashioned
. I also used the style from the unborn poster of her looking in the mirror to see the possessed person.

Develop
I developed the poster by
. Merging two photos together to create the mirror effect
. Used a tag line that matched with the image
" Everybody has their demons" This shows the demon within steph looking back at her in the mirror

Challenge
. I used the gradient tool to give it a blue tinge giving it a creepy ghostly look.
. I also washed out most of the background so the main image stands out better
