Research & Planning : Analysis Of Teaser Trailer.

For my research I did an analysis of this movie trailer The Last Exorcism. This was because its a horror about a girl being possessed which is what genre we want are teaser trailer to be.
The conventions i expected to see in this type of genre are
.Red Bold fonts
. Music soundtrack usually slow music that speeds up to create tention
.Low key lighting and shadowing
. Scarey Mis-en-scene such as derlick settings and blood used
. Flashinng editing and lots of fades to black
. Scariest clips from the film

The trailer above included  nearly all of these conventions such as
. They use a peircing soundtrack that starts of slow at the start and gets quicker to build tention
.Low key lighting throught the film
. Set in a an old country home which makes it look more creepy
. Red and Black are the main colours used throughout the trailer.

Therefore  it would be usefull to try and embed most of them in our teaser trailer as we wont to create successful horror trailer which we cudnt put across without the right conventions included.

Media language : Sound

The sounds that are used in this movie trailer are varied as they use
. Non-diegetic sondtracks in the back ground which they use one soundtrack which plays in the background throughout the trailer but it increases in volume and speed as the trailer plays through. 
. Voice over of a preist talking about exorcism. This makes the storyline look more realistic
. Diegetic talking from the possesed girls family
. off screen diegeticheavy breathing

Media Language: Cinematography
The cinematography used in this movie trailer are
. Establishiongt shotsof country home to see where the girl lives and where she is possesed
. Tracking shots of setting clips
.Close up of latin religious book and picture of the devel
.Long shots of abonned cars and buses
. Un steady camaraas showing the possesed girl. This creates panic
.Extreme close up of possesed girl shows the possesion more effective
 Long shot of the possesed girl cracking her back so audience sees full effect
.Slow zooms showing the possesed girl hiding in the cornor
. Camera switch from close up of peoples faces as they talk
. Low angle tracking of shoes
. Long shot zooms into close up of possesed girl to end the trailer.

Media Language: Editing.

The editing that has been done in this music video is
.Quick fades to black as they show little scarey clips from the film creating tention,
.Bold Red font symbolises death and blood and in this case the devil.

.Extreme short flashing clips
. The logo is edited into the corner of the screen of the production company

Audience: Age
The audience age that its aimed at is mostly aimed at teenagers over the age of 15 as thats the regulaed age for the film. More of the older generarition may prefer this because of its historical religious contents.

Audience: Gender
Most horrors are aimed at both males and females. As theres the sterotyping of that males and females watch it together an the males there to comfort females when they get scared.

Audience : Lifestyles and interests
The audiences that seek thrills and enjoys the feeling of beeing scaried.
Audiences from a middle class background may prefer to watch this beacuse of its intellectual background and most of the characters in this are middle class citizens.
Religious people who belive in god and the devil.

Audience : Represenatattion
Males in this are represented as heros as there the ones trying to save the young vunerable girl. This showing their machoness and the strerotype that men always have to save the women.
Religion is seen in a negative way in this case. As many religions dont believe in a devil. It also shows how their faith and method are ineffective within the trailer.

Narrative
The storyline is a sequal from the first exorcism and many other exorcism film. Its about a young girl who has been to be possesed by what the preist believe is the devil. This one priest has performed many exorcisms but in this case from seen by the trailer he is inaffective in succseeding the exorcism.





This teaser trailer I chose to annaylse  is The Strangers Teaser Trailer. This was because its a horror genre like ours will be.

The Trailer included such conventions as;

. Low key ligting through out the film.
. Creepy soundtrack playing
. still images that builds up to fast clips from the film
. Red  and bold fonts
. Scariset clips from the film.

Media Language : Sound
. Diegetic speaking and screaming from the couple.
. Off screen whispers to make the audience aware of the strangers
. Non diegetic soundtrack of a creepy old fashioned song which repeats and gets faster. This creates a haunting effect
.Camera shot sound effects. This looks like someone is taking pictures of everything thats happening.

Media language : Editing
. Fast transitions that instantly fade into the next shot.
 . Bold fonts
. Lots of fades to black makes it look more scarey
. Camera multi shot effect used.


Media Language : Mis-en-scene
. Lone house in the woods for the setting
.Knifes, Blood masks all props that make it into a horror

Audience : Age

 Aimed at mostly Adults and older teenagers as its about an older married couple and how choosing the wrong home can be the worst decision of your life. Which adults can relate to.

Audience : Gender
Both male and female are represented as equal in this trailer as they are both the victems . Although the man is the one to go out and investigate and trys to protect the women.


Audience : Lifestyles and interests
. People who like thrills and enjoy beeing scaried
. People who like true stories as this is based on one


Narrative
 Two newly weds move into their new home. Little did they know strangers were watching them and planned to come into their home and kill them.

Research & Planning: Film Regulation

We have decided that for are are teaser trailer we are going to regulate and put the certficate of a 15 or a 18.

We decided 15 certificate because

.Mature Themes may be used but suitable for young teenagers

.Could use slight discriminating language but thats not to offensive that the young generation may copy.

We decided a 15 certificate because

. There may be frequent use of strong language

. Use it as a marketing tool as people may think its better if its of higher certificate

.Drug taking may be shown but the film trailer in a whole won't promote the miss use of drugs.

Research and Planning: The Test

For my film sequence we chose to do a genre of  comedy for the theme of a chase scene. The purpose of the exercise is to test how well we work in a group and get us used to using final cut pro for when we develop are teaser Trailers.
I think we worked well as a group in making are trailer as we all shared an equal part in filming and editing. I liked the range of differnt camera shots thats were used to show close up long shots mid shots of Becky being chased as it shown us the differn impacts the different shots can do. I also liked the soundtrack that we used a it created a good comical atmosphere to are video which is what we wanted to get across.
The things we could of improved on for are video is the different transitions used as in some parts it didnt flow well when swictching camera angles. Also the differnt sounds used in our clip needed o be more blended in with each other rather than it just cutting off.
In conclusion i think are test trailer went well and it helped us look a the flaws and the positives in are skills o see what we need o do and not do when producing are movie trailer.

Research and Planning : Genre :)

I am going to research a vary of different genres to help me decide what genre my coursework teaser trailer  will be. The four genres I have chosen to research are horror, action, comedy, and romance. As I think will be easier to produce for are teaser trailer

Genre: Horror   

I am going to look at a  dvd cover of a horror film to see the different affects that show the conventions needed of what a horror film should include. This would be dark lighting, Props such as masks an fake blood, bold colours like black and red which symbolize death. If I was to look at a movie trailer for a horror film i would expect to see lots of quick shots and fades. The lighting used in the trailer would be very dark in most scenes usually only highlighting the characters facial expressions which is usualy done in close ups to show their fear. The trailer would also probably use diegetic sounds such as screaming and heavy breathing. As-well as usually using non-diegetic creepy soundtracks to create tension.

One dvd cover I looked at is the horror film the grudge. I chose this as its very clearly indicates to the audience that its  horror film due to the conventions used. This is shown as the title is Bold an red which stands out an looks like blood. Also the main character is the main image of the cover as a close up showing clearly how scary she . it also uses a lot of shadowing on the girls face to give it an eery effect.

Genre: Action

For researching action genre I am going to be looking at a movie trailer. This is so I can have more of an understanding of what an action movie trailer would contain. Most actions films usually contain props such as weapons an fast cars. fast upbeat music lots of tracking shots and they usually star a well know actor linked to lots of action films such as tom cruise or Angelina Jolie.

The Expendables

One trailer that I looked at was a movie trailer for The action film expendables which shown most typical  action conventions. it had rocky fast soundtrack which mad e the film look manly. It also used lots of guns and explosions. It uses also lots of well known action actors.

Genre: Comedy

Here I researched a comdey film trailer called step brothers to look at the conventions of a comedy film. This shown me that most comdy trailers have high key lighting to create a warm mood. Also it usuall contains upbeat cheery non diegitic soundtracks. There is usually a voice over used to narrate the story to the audience. The trailer would also contain parts of the joke throughout the trailer to show the audience that its the comedy genre.

Genre : Romance

For researching a romance genre i looked at a poster for a romance film called Ps i love you. This helped me research he conventions of what a romance should include. These were that it usually uses a clip from film of picture to show the audience straight away that its a romance film just by using a picture of the couple in the film. Also the films usually use warm  bright colours and the colour red as red is associated with love. The lighting used is very high key lighting and its usually a multi strand narrative as its about people falling in love.
