Research & Planning : Storyboard 1

This is our first attempt of story boarding our different shots of our teaser trailer:

Research & Planning : Meeting Two

Today we had another group meeting which we then decided to add some more shot into are storyboard which would include more flashy scenes. This is because the conventions of a horror movie usually involves lots of flashing scenes to make it look more scary and build tentionr. We also looked at who will be staring as the main characters and how often they will appear in the trailer. Aswell as thinking of what sounds to use.

Resaerch & Planning : Mise en scene ideas

Today i looked at our prop list so i researched on the internet where to get
. Red contact lenses and found out there is a shop in Ashton and they are only £9.99
. I have borrowed of my nan an old Nighty as it gives he old fashion look of the girl when she is possesed
.  I have found some old white sheets for the bedroom scene as there will be a lot of blood split on them.
. My Nanna also has a cross that we can use to clearly indicate the religious side to are film

Research & Planning : Analysis Of Film Magazine 2

Today we looked at film magazine cover that matches are genre of our film as we need to create are own magazine cover.
As we are doing a horror I chose to look at a comedy horror film magazine cover of Shaun of the dead.

Conventions of a film magazine.
. Main image dominates the page. This showing the main actor which in this case is Simon Peg. This suggest to the viewer that's its a comedy as that's the genre he is linked to.
. Although the main colour scheme of the red suggests its a horror as that is what the original was.

Narrative
  • The headlines and the pug's don't really narrate to the audience much about the film as its a suggestive seller as the reader will want to know more about the film.
  • The facial expression on Simon Pegs face suggest a seriousness to the film but it actually is not the case for the film this making it give the wrong message to the audience maybe to lure them in.
Representation

  • Simon Peg here is representing as a hero and a very masculine figure in this image. This is due to his posture whilst he is holding a weapon and his serious face expression.
  • His average Joe clothing represents normal people becoming a hero as that's all Sean was.
  • Gender wise it is stereotyping men too be the hero and the brave one who will fight

Audience
  •  The target audience aimed from this magazine cover would be probably from the ages of 15 to 25 as its advertising films from a 15 certificates that would likely to be watched by the old teenage to young 20s era of people. I also think it is aimed at film fanatics as their the ones likely to be buying Empire.

    . Voice over
    . Soundtracks
    . sound bridges
. Diegetic and non diegetic sound
    . sound effects

Research & Planning : Aims for the rest of the week

Things that I aim to do by the end of the week:
    . Storyboard

    . Cast auditions and selection

    . Cast Photographs

. Location recess and risk assessments

    . Group meetings

Research & Planning : Film poster analysis

Most Typical Horror films such as these usually show the main character as the dominant image of the poster or also it usually only shows one person or thing as the dominant image to make sure the Horror in the film instantly gets across to the audience.

The main colour scheme that is usually used for horrors are usually Bold reds and blacks. Also Whites and greys are often used aswell. They usually have either a very dark plain background or in this case an all white background. This is so that the font and the main images stand out and attarack the audiences eyes. The colour red also symbolises death and blood which is a common convention in the horror genre.

Over all most horror film posters clearly indicate to its viewers that its advertising a horror movie.

Research & Planning : Codes and Conventions of a film poster

Conventions usually used for s film poster are :
. Main character or characters shown

.Dark colours aswell as bold colours that stand out such as red

. The title of the film

. A catch slogan which relates to the film

. Some sort of indication to the audience that its a horror film.

    .Scarey costume

This we found after analyzing various Horror film posters.

    Research & Planning : Storyboard

This is our first draft of story board that we did to show a brief  outline of a story idea for our teaser trailer.

First Shot: Long shot then slow zoom showing the four main characters playing the Ougi board.

Second Shot: Mid shot of main character Steph saying to her friend she doesn't want to do the Ougi board.

Research & Planning : Analysis of Film Magazine

    Conventions of Film Magazine
    • Main Image dominates the page. This shows the horror aspects of The Dark Night Film. This also Highlighting the fear of the Joker
    • The Main Color Scene is quite dark showing also that its horror but also so that it doesn't take the main attention of the jokers face.
    • The usually Empire Font is used creating the brand image for the Magazine

    Narrative
    • The Slug lines and the pug highlights to the audience a little insight to what the films about but not to much as they want to entice  the audience to read more.
    • The Frowning Facial Expression Heath Ledger narrates to the audience that its quite a serious film or a horror
    Representation
    • Heath Ledger is represented obviously here as the villain due to the low key lighting and his costume.
    • Here its unusual for them to show the villain to advertise the film without portraying the hero. This Makes ther Villian seem most important in the storyline
    • Gender wise its stereotyping a male to be the villain which is the case in most superhero films.
    Audience
    •  Mostly Aimed a males as its a male dominant image and superhero films are sterotypicaly aimed for the audience of men.
    • Aimed probably for a audience above the age of 15 as it comes across quite dark and scary
    • Again at Film fanatics as they are the ones most likely to purchase Empire.
